The Fox Theater and Detroit Michigan

Boutique Hotel Rooms in Troy Michigan

The Detroit Fox Theater was built by architect C. Howard Crane for William Fox in 1928. The interior design, inspired by Eve Leo wife of William Fox pioneer film producer and founder of Twentieth Century-Fox, is an eclectic Hindu-Siamese-Byzantine theater of the golden age. The Fox stands today, along with its 1929 twin, the Saint Louis Fox Theatre, as one of the few movie palaces in the United States. Over the years the Detroit Fox Theater changed ownership many times, until 1987, when Mike and Marian Ilitch of Little Caesar's Pizza purchased it and subsequently began a multi-million restoration project, which included a new 10-story marquee. The grand reopening in 1988 became the cornerstone for the rebirth of downtown, the Fox Theater and Detroit Michigan, and the Detroit theatre and entertainment district. The Detroit Fox Theatre has the distinction of being the largest continually operating theatre in the country, a National Historic Landmark, and a Detroit treasure.

The Fox Theater seats over 5,000 people. Since the restoration, the Fox has become known as the Temple of Amusement,- combining Broadway tours and live shows such as Sesame Street Live and the famed Radio City Rockettes, magic performances like the magnificent David Copperfield, concerts such as Michael Buble` and the Black Eyed Peas, special events and the occasional classic film.

Minutes from the Fox Theater and Detroit Michigan is the Somerset Inn. The hotel, which is located at the prominent Somerset Collection shopping mall, is a cornerstone to the Troy downtown district. The 14-story structure is modern in design, yet full of charm. Newly renovated, each guest room offers appealing appointments from coffee and tea makers to stylish make-up and dressing mirrors, complimentary High Speed Internet, video check-out, irons and boards, hair dryers and in-room movies.
